What is Healing?

Have you ever really thought about what healing truly is? Healing is defined (by dictionary.com) as:
1. curing or curative; prescribed or helping to heal2. growing sound; getting well; mending.
When you really think about healing, what comes to mind? Is it physical, mental, emotional? Or is it all three? In my own healing journey, I have come to discover that in order to truly heal oneself or achieve healing, all three are connected to each other.
A lot of people seek out healing for physical issues, such as cancer, heart problems, or even digestive issues. The thing about physical issues is that they begin somewhere, don't they? You don't just all of a sudden wake up one day and have cancer out of the blue. It develops, it simmers, it manifests over time until it gets to the point that you can't ignore it any longer and seek out help. That help most likely begins with a doctor's visit that leads you to a diagnosis. From there, it can lead you to seek many pathways back to wholeness. However, like I said before, the dis-ease started somewhere, and that is where the emotional and mental issues come in.
All dis-ease begins in an emotional or mental manner before it manifests in the body. When we are born, we come into this world as clear, pure spirits. As we grow, the beliefs and fears of our families and our societies encrust themselves onto our souls and we begin to shine that light less and less, moving away from wholeness and into dis-ease.
How many people do you know whose families have reoccurring illnesses, such as breast cancer, diabetes, and heart problems? That is no coincidence and it is not just the genetic predisposition to these illnesses that cause them. Imagine you are told, from the time you are born, that all women in your family get breast cancer around age 40. If this is constantly ingrained in you day after day, year after year, you are going to believe that is just what happens to women in your family and you will draw that to you, just as your mother, aunt, grandmother, and other females did. Your BELIEF that you will get cancer at age 40 will cause you to draw it to you.
Beliefs of not (insert adjective such as good, pretty, smart, etc.) enough can also manifest as dis-ease. If you are told from a very young age that you are not enough in any shape fashion or form, that internalizes. As you grow, the belief festers and breeds within, eventually manifesting as physical dis-ease. Once we can pinpoint those events and beliefs from our lives that have caused the physical manifestation, we can heal the original point of the disease.
In my healing journey, I have let go of my former dis-eases of depression, allergies, and digestive issues. In pinpointing and claiming the origin of those manifestations, I was able to let them go and move back toward wholeness. Through the healing I claimed for myself, I moved from being on multiple daily medications to none and now rarely have a problem with any of these issues. Also, if one of these issues flare up, I know where to start looking in order to find the old beliefs, thoughts, or energies that are causing the issue. This gift of healing oneself is available to us all if we are willing to take the steps to make it happen.
